Peter was born and raised on a sheep farm in Central Otago and attended Otago Boys' High School in Dunedin, before moving to Canterbury, where he obtained his Bachelor of Agriculture and Commerce in Valuation and Farm Management from Lincoln College.
He started his own accounting practice in 1991 and amalgamated this practice with that of Graham Brown to form Brown Glassford & Co Limited in 1999. Peter, along with the other directors, have built this company up to be the preeminent agribusiness advisory practice in Canterbury.
In April 2018, Peter decided to step back as Director of Brown Glassford but remains as a Consultant, with a focus on strategic planning, governance, and mediation.
While at Lincoln Peter met his wife Jill and stayed in Christchurch to become a Cantabrian. His three children are all married and Peter has six grandchildren. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and an associate member of the Rural Panel of the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand Inc.
